Pushing for a national plan for LGBTQ health
Principal investigator of the CHLEW Couples study Dr. Tonda Hughes recently spoke to the Macy Foundation about LGBTQ health disparities and the need to develop a national plan to address them. With support from Columbia and the Macy Foundation, Dr. Hughes organized a national summit with leading nursing educators in December 2019 to discuss how to provide better LGBTQ health education to nurses, support more research focusing on this underrepresented community, and formulate a national plan to tackle health disparities on a larger scale. Dr. Hughes and her colleagues are planning a second national nursing summit, and are optimistic about making meaningful progress in improving LGBTQ health across the country.
